Privacy and data
What Merlin keeps, who can see it, and how to delete it.
For the full details, see the privacy policy.
What Merlin tells a chat
When Merlin joins a chat, it posts a message saying it’s an AI, that it saves every message, that voice notes are transcribed, and where the privacy notice is.
What Merlin keeps
- Every message in the chats it’s in, with reactions and edits
- The text of files people send. The files themselves stay on the chat app.
- Each chat’s memory and files
- Your email, name, picture, plan and timezone
Messages are kept until someone deletes them. Your data isn’t sold, used for ads, or used to train AI.
Who can see what
- People in a chat can ask Merlin about anything said in that chat.
- In your direct messages, Merlin can search all of your chats. In a group, it only searches your other chats if you turned that on for yourself, and it asks you each time.
- Other people can only use your apps as far as you allow in each chat. See Connected apps.
Opting out
Anyone in a chat can type /forget me, with or without an account. Merlin deletes their messages in that chat and stops saving new ones.
Deleting your data
- Unlink a chat app on Home to delete everything kept from that account.
- Unlink a connected app to delete everything Merlin had from it.
- Delete a chat from your archive after Merlin has left it.
- Download your data or delete your account in Settings.
Linked apps and synced logins are stored encrypted.
